Specific Need

We are participating in this Match Day to update our classroom experience in three areas.

First, the School, in partnership with the parent-teacher league, has embarked on a multi-year effort to update the technology in our classrooms and media center. Since Match Day 2024, the School has invested nearly $10,000 in upgrades, but there is more work to do.

Second, our School has adopted a plan to review and update curricula across all subject areas. This year, we will replace teacher and student materials for math and science. New materials cost approximately $6,000 to $9,000 per subject; this is an expensive, but important investment in our classrooms.

And finally, the teacher's aide previous Match Day gifts allowed us to hire is a tremendous blessing to our students and teachers. She creates more opportunities for individualized instruction, planning space for our teachers, and so much more. We appreciate those who made this possible and those who help us keep her in the family.

St. John Lutheran School has long been a respected and nurturing environment in which children excel at learning and emerge as leaders in the community. Our formula for success is simple - combine eager students, enthusiastic faculty and staff, engaged parents, and a mission-minded congregation in a Christian setting and amazing things happen. Having just finished celebrating its first 150 years (2023-2024), the School is excited about its future, is expanding its enrollment (i.e., 33 students in 2019, 60 in 2025, and 65-70 in the next ten years), and is always thinking of ways to improve each student's academic and personal growth experience.

St. John Lutheran School is fully-accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation Commission and the Kansas Department of Education. Our teachers are inspired by the love of teaching and the love of children; all meet professional certification standards for the State of Kansas. The School's academic program is designed to ensure children reach their full academic potential and our students routinely outperform their peers across the State. We believe, to achieve our mission, the School must continually adapt and adopt new techniques, technologies, and ideas.

In several years, the School has -- partnered with Mt Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego to launch a bus service from the Wamego area to our campus in Alma; renovated and updated our media center and library; rewired our campus to improve broadband speed and reliability; and partnered with a scholarship granting organization to help fund the tuition of select students; and hired an aide to support student contact time and give our faculty the time they need for planning.
